SHAPE The spleen is ovoid in shape or shaped somewhat “like a baseball catcher’s mitt”, with the inside of the mitt corresponding to the hilum. Technically, its shape can vary from a curved wedge (if the colic impression is small) to a tetrahedron (if the colic impression is large).
